I like this chapter and I’ve realised that a lot of “home” comes from rituals practiced at home. Reflecting on what you do that makes you rest and then taking those away with you when you move brings this “fluidity” as you say:)
I like it Elo. You're right, bringing rituals with you definitely helps. What are your top ones? I find running is a pretty grounding one for me. Even if there's a slight set-up required to discover the new best routes.
Drinking 500mL of water when waking up and looking out the window to take time to wonder if you slept well or not, and look outside before starting anything.
Mobility: running, workouts, pilates, dance min 4x a week.
Stretching at the end of the day!! Even if it is just a few neck rolls and dropping your neck down.
Saying no to desserts after 3 days - there is just so much you can say yes to. Adapting yes, but not too much. Remembering probiotics (yogurt), fruits, and veggies (going out doesn't always have to be unhealthy). I give myself a 3 day max vibe because after 3 days, unhealthy eating starts feeling back but 2 days in a row actually is crazy fun (a feeling of completely letting go:)
I need to think more about the less physical ones and more about the spiritual ones... Let me come back to you! What are your spiritual ones?
Love these. So many good'uns here. Super interesting to frame what I'd call 'sport' as 'mobility' too. It feels more longevity > performance based that way.
These are the (somewhat!) spiritual ones:
Every Sunday for the last 6 years I have handwritten one page of reflections on my week without fail. Every 3 months I do a quarterly review and goal set. Every year I do a big life design reflection. Keeps me clear on where this is all going.
Reading on public transport. I take my Kindle with me wherever I go. That way I get through a chapter here and there as I commute or travel to meet friends. Such an easy hack to get through more books.
I review every book I read on Goodreads. It creates a catalogue of what I thought about the book at the time and means I can always look back.
There's something about having my bike always pumped up, accessible and ready to go that hits hard too. Like it's my source of freedom always waiting for me.
I've been doing tarot readings on what feels like a 6 monthly schedule (without trying to) thanks to some events I've attended. Which draws an interesting line in the ground for where I'm at and invites some reflection.
